The-Depot is home to The Aviary, a collection of modern residences overlooking the Welwythn, sharing its elevators (and water tank) with The Roost, and arcane art-deco hotel where “squalor” and “glamour” are merely two Scrabble® words you can make with the letters A, G, L, M, O, Q, R, S and U.

The Red-Letter District has some amazing Bed and Breakfasts, both old school classic and modern chic viewable through AirBnB. Beware cheap clip joints and “massage therapists” masquerading as proper bed and breakfast, many of these are illegal, you can smell the cheap perfume as you walk in.

There’s also some cheap living here, in the Shimokunimarimoto-kimune-Hamashayaki District tenements. Most of these house 30-40 families per floor and are independently managed by the various slumlords who masquerade as proper modern-age businessmen. Do look out for the warning signs – their business cards are often printed on irregular or hand cut fragments of paper, they eat and leave discarded wrappers for gluten-based desserts, and they remember to look both ways before crossing their legs. A handshake with one of them is usually an irrevocable deal; beware of grabbing extended hands without assessing the implied future risks. Many buildings have parking, 24-hour laundry services and/or access to a nearby convenience mart.
